🖥️ ContolX SR-300

Server Room
Cooling Controller

Multi-stage compressor control for server rooms, data closets, telecom equipment rooms, and multi-compressor cold rooms. Works with normal split AC, central AC, or indoor multi-compressor cold-room style systems — up to 3 compressors, run independently or simultaneously, with automatic rotation so every unit gets equal rest. Independently validated: 163 of 163 test assertions passed, zero failures.

Independently Validated — 100% Pass Rate

The SR-300's control firmware was put through 8 structured test cases — compressor staging, automatic rotation, lead-compressor setpoint shift, hysteresis deadband behaviour, disabled-compressor exclusion, de-staging, and heat-compressor interlock safety. All 163 assertions across every test case passed with zero warnings or failures. The full report is available on request.

How Multi-Stage Compressor Control Works

Each compressor has its own setpoint and a shared hysteresis (deadband) value. As room temperature rises, compressors stage on one at a time; as it falls, they stage off — with automatic rotation making sure no single unit always carries the load.

Live Air TemperatureResultWhy
20°C (below all setpoints)All compressors OFFTemperature is below every compressor's ON threshold
23-25°C1 compressor ONCrosses the lead compressor's setpoint + hysteresis threshold
29°C2 compressors ONCrosses the second compressor's threshold; first drops out again once temp falls to/below its own setpoint
33-36°CAll 3 compressors ONFull load — every compressor engaged simultaneously

Example setpoints used in validation testing: Compressor 1 = 22°C, Compressor 2 = 26°C, Compressor 3 = 30°C, with a 2°C hysteresis — all fully configurable per installation. Whichever compressor has been resting longest is automatically promoted to lead on each rotation, so runtime is shared evenly across every connected unit instead of always hitting the same compressor first.

Rotation & Safety Logic

Equal Wear, Automatic Safety

AUTOMATIC ROTATION
🔄

Lead Compressor Rotation

On a configurable schedule (hours + minutes, default 8 hours), the lead compressor position shifts to the next unit — the compressor with the longest rest gets priority next, distributing wear evenly across all connected units.
Manual rotation also available instantly via front-panel button — no power cycle needed.
DISABLED COMPRESSOR SKIP
🚫

Automatic Exclusion

Any compressor can be disabled — whether it's not physically installed, or a fault has been observed. Disabled units are automatically excluded from both staging and rotation logic; the remaining compressors continue operating normally.
Validated: with one compressor disabled, rotation correctly cycled only between the remaining two units.
HYSTERESIS DEADBAND
📊

Anti-Cycling Protection

A configurable deadband prevents compressors from rapidly switching on and off near the threshold temperature — protecting compressor longevity from short-cycling.
Validated at the exact threshold boundary: firmware correctly holds prior state rather than chattering.
HEAT-COMPRESSOR INTERLOCK
🔒

Safety Interlock

If a heater output is present on the installation, it is immediately de-energised the moment any compressor turns on — heating and active cooling are never allowed to run simultaneously.
Validated: no simultaneous compressor and heater activation observed across any test case.
Compatibility

Works With Your Existing AC Setup

The SR-300 isn't tied to one type of cooling equipment — it's designed to control the compressor staging logic regardless of what's physically installed.

Normal Split AC UnitsStandard server room split AC systems, staged via relay-driven contactor control
Central AC SystemsBuilding/facility-level central cooling plant integration
Multi-Compressor Cold RoomsIndoor cold-room style installations with multiple independent compressor units
PT100 Field CalibrationClass A accuracy RTD sensor, standard 5m PTFE cable, field-extensible to 300m via 4-20mA loop
Industrial-Rated Hardware3-phase contactors rated 9A AC-3 (up to ~5.5kW loads at 400V), IP65 dust/water-jet resistant enclosure
Ethernet & Remote Access10/100 Ethernet, Modbus TCP/RTU, HTTP REST API, web browser configuration UI
⚙️ Optional Feature

Fallback Ventilation — Fan & Fresh-Air Control

As an optional add-on, the SR-300 can remotely control the indoor unit's fan motor speed and fresh-air intake as a fallback measure — keeping air moving through the room if all compressors fail or during a power/electricity outage. Instead of the room going completely still with zero air movement, the system can drive fan speed and open fresh-air paths to slow temperature rise until cooling is restored. Fully controllable remotely, the same way as the rest of the system.

Cloud Monitoring

Enterprise-Grade Logging Infrastructure

Server room cooling is too critical to leave monitoring to chance. All telemetry from the SR-300 is captured on our dedicated high-end logging server, running on redundant RAID 1 storage for data integrity, with real-time Grafana dashboards for live and historical trend visibility.

RAID 1 Disk RedundancyLogging infrastructure runs on mirrored RAID 1 storage — a single disk failure doesn't mean lost history
High-End Logging ServerDedicated infrastructure built for continuous, reliable telemetry ingestion — not a shared, best-effort service
Grafana DashboardsReal-time and historical trend views of temperature, setpoints, and every compressor's ON/OFF history
Local-Network OperationCore control logic runs independent of cloud connectivity — your server room stays cooled even if the internet drops
Independent Validation

Tested Against 8 Real-World Scenarios

Before release, the control firmware was exercised through structured test cases covering every primary control function — not just staging under ideal conditions, but rotation, disabled-unit handling, exact-boundary hysteresis behaviour, and full de-staging as load drops.

🔥 In Development

Early Fire Detection — Before Visible Ignition

We're developing an early-warning fire detection add-on using aspirating smoke detection technology combined with CO sensors — designed to catch the earliest signs of combustion in a server room or cold room well before flame or visible smoke appears, when intervention can still prevent equipment loss. This feature is currently in development and not yet available for deployment.
